We Have Liftoff!
The space shuttle Discovery leaps from billows of smoke into a clear blue Florida sky as it leaves Earth for mission STS-124 to the International Space Station. Launch was on time at 5:02 p.m. EDT.
This is the 26th assembly mission to the space station. The 14-day flight includes three spacewalks, and will deliver and connect Japan's laboratory module to the station.
